I wrote this newsletter last Thursday and it was a great example of how life can change in an instant!
Courses were running normally, I had just booked my third jab and I was feeling COVID confident. What a mistake! Within 10 minutes of finishing writing, my wife, who had been suffreing from a bad cold for a few days, tested positive. This week’s course has therefore been cancelled and I am currently hoping that I do not get symptoms myself, though it is very likely!
Anyway, here is what I wrote last week:
It has been a while since my last newsletter and I thought I would update you on new course dates, an upcoming show and a new chair.
Since my last message, courses have returned to their usual pattern and it has been a real pleasure to see so many people in the workshop again.
The current news on COVID infections is not so encouraging, but like every business in the country, I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can continue to operate normally!

New Course Dates
I have recently added new courses to my website, through to the beginning of July next year.
There is a choice of 6 different arm chairs, including a new design – further details below. There is also the first weekend stool course for a couple of years!

Stool Course
After a long gap, due to the pandemic, I have included a stool course for April 9/10. This is a fun weekend course where you can make a 4-legged stool. It’s the same height as a chair and so can be used at any table. All the parts are made on the Saturday and they are assembled on Sunday and a simple finish applied. Please get in touch if you are interested and I can let you know whether there is a vacancy.
Sussex Guild Craft Show 4/5 December at Midhurst Rother College
After a gap of two years this show is back on! I have a particular interest in the show as I am one of the organisers and it is a fabulous show in a great location.
Please add the dates to your diary!
With nearly 60 exhibitors from the Guild, you will be spoilt for choice for finding unusual Christmas presents. Refreshments will be available all day.
I will have free tickets available nearer the time and will send a newsletter, with the option to download them, a few weeks before the show.
My new chair will be there to try out and I look forward to seeing many old friends again at the show.
New Chair
If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen the development of this new sack back chair. This is a brand new design, which is a slightly Anglicised version of a classic American double bow (sack back) chair.
This chair is larger and different from the sack back that I offered up until a few years ago.
I have scheduled the first course for this chair 13-17 June, 2022.
