Every year I attend a range of shows around the South East. There are two new shows for me this year. I will be explaining how my chair making courses work and you can try out the chairs that can be made.
The show is in the spacious Horsham District Council/WSCC offices, just a few minutes walk from the centre of Horsham and the Carfax. There will be a great range of exhibitors from the Guild, covering all the crafts. Refreshments will be available and there are many cafes/restaurants nearby. Come and enjoy this excellent show.
Royal Horticultural Society Gardens, Wisley , Near Woking, Surrey GU23 6QB
One of the biggest and best craft shows in the country! An enormous range of crafts and the wonderful gardens.
New Barn, Newhouse Lane, East Dean, Chichester, West Sussex. PO18 0NJ
A true Wood Fair set in the heart of the South Downs at East Dean (near Goodwood and West Dean) and based around Peter West’s workshop. A wide range of traditional crafts will be on display. Everyone exhibiting will have a common interest in wood. It will be a great day out!
This will be the 50th anniversary of the Sussex Guild’s first show at Michelham. I have not exhibited here for about 10 years, but it is a lovely show and many exhibitors will be demonstrating their craft at the same time as showing their wares. The country’s longest Medieval moat surrounds the Tudor house and the show. Well worth a visit!
The Guildhall, Winchester, SO23 9GH
This is a new show for me, and is run by the same organisation as the magnificent show at RHS Wisley in the spring.
A mixed discipline craft fair being staged alongside the Desire Jewellery & Silversmithing Fair. This will be the tenth year with Desire at Winchester. Admission gives entry to both events. Purchase from a stunning treasure trove of original and affordable designs created by some of the finest craftsmen and artists in the UK. Textiles, paintings, furniture, metal, leather, ceramics, jewellery, glass, fashion and more…
Midhurst Rother College, Midhurst, West Sussex GU29 9DT
The perfect pre-Christmas show!
No previous experience is necessary to successfully complete a Windsor chair making course and yet experienced woodworkers will still be fully challenged. Individual guidance and assistance will be provided as appropriate, and every effort will be made to ensure a rewarding and enjoyable course.
Written by James Mursell, this book was the first new book about the making and design of Windsor chairs for over 10 years. It was written with a broad readership in mind and is aimed at existing Windsor chair makers and also at those who are contemplating making their first chair.
Ben Orford makes the blades for my travishers.
Watch his short video about this great tool and the uses it can be put to.
“This tool is phenomenal. I bought two, one for myself and another for my Windsor chairmaker instructor. Compared to the other travishers I have used, yours is very good to work with and everyone who has tried it loves it. I just ordered a second one and your two spokeshaves which I trust will be as enjoyable to use. Thanks again for making such great tools.” LG (USA) 2015
