Just a very brief newsletter this time to tell you about a show that I will be exhibiting at this coming weekend at Ardingly College, and also details of a recent course with a group all the way from Nantucket Island, USA!

This coming weekend I will be exhibiting at this show, along with another 40 members of the Sussex Guild. I was planning this last year, but a dose of COVID got in the way, so I am hoping for better luck this year!
I will have four of my course chairs on display and would love to discuss chair making courses.
The range of exhibitors will be wide and there will be refreshments available. Do come along, if you are in the area!

Nantucket Chair Course
Two weeks ago, I ran a most unusual course. It was to make one of the largest and most complicated chairs that I have offered – a major challenge!
Five people came over from Nantucket Island, MA to make the chair. They were all members of the Nantucket Historical Association link including the Director and organiser of courses. They stayed in our village for the week and worked very hard to create their chairs.
The design is unique to the island, which in the 1700’s was a centre for whaling on the east coast of the US. This brought in lots of money, and beautiful houses and furniture are a legacy of that period.
The chairs were all put together at the end of the week and then disassembled for shipping across the Atlantic, for reassembly there.
I plan to offer this chair as a course in 2026, for those that have already attended a course with me and are confident in their chairmaking. I will announce dates later in the year. If you are interested, do drop me an email, so that I can gauge interest.
