Side Chairs

Side chairs are designed to be used at a table or individually in a room and have no arms. The seats are deeply sculpted from solid wood to make them comfortable to sit in for many hours. They will not benefit from cushions as this will interfere with the  shape that has been carefully created for maximum comfort.

The can be made from a range of different woods such as elm, cherry and chestnut depending on preference and availablility. The remainder of the chairs are made from ash.

Side chairs have either a steam-bent bow (bow-backs) which is jointed into the seat, or a horizontal crest (also steam bent) which holds the spindles together.

Bow-back Chair
This design dates from around 1780. The wonderfully curved seat is very comfortable and although it is a traditional design it works well in both a traditional and contemporary setting. This chair works well with either the double-bow or continuous-arm armchairs.

Price: £495

This contemporary design is also very comfortable and will suit a wide range of settings.

Minimalist Comb-back

This chair was designed to be both compact and elegant. The angular and dramatically shaped seat makes a clear contemporary statement and the central gap between the spindles is both comfortable and distinctive. This chair was designed to be paired with the Minimalist armchair.

Tool Testimonials

“This tool is phenomenal. I bought two, one for myself and another for my Windsor chairmaker instructor. Compared to the other travishers I have used, yours is very good to work with and everyone who has tried it loves it. I just ordered a second one and your two spokeshaves which I trust will be as enjoyable to use. Thanks again for making such great tools.” LG (USA) 2015
