A Windsor chair is defined as having a solid seat, with the undercarriage inserted from below and the superstructure from above; there is no continuity between top and bottom. Within this definition the range of chair that can be created in almost infinite.

James Mursell makes both traditional and contemporary chairs, using locally grown hardwoods. His chairs are made using traditional green woodworking techniques, and are completed to a high standard with an oil-based finish.

James makes every effort to make his chairs as elegant as possible, in part by removing as much unnecessary wood as possible from the structures. The principle of ‘less is more’ applies absolutely to Windsor chairs.

These chairs should give pleasure to generations.
